Shock tactics

Adverts for charities or those aiming to raise public awareness about the dangers of speeding, drink-driving, smoking etc, have increasingly pushed the envelope when it comes to trying to shock us. Well, this new viral ad for children’s charity Barnardo’s certainly shocks, thanks in part to its use of explicit language. And although a child swearing in an ad did grab my attention, it was the realistic, underplayed and quite raw execution of it that I found most powerful. Not to mention the captivating little boy.
