Happy fruit (and veg)
Thursday, September 27, 2007
Our organic fruit & veg box delivery arrived this morning - all very middle class I know - but I always enjoying peeking inside the carefully packed boxes to see what we’ve got this time round, and I wasn’t disappointed - as you can see above!
Fruit and veg from nature shouldn’t be uniform, it’s a sad state of affairs when supermarkets make the decision for us that we want every banana, pepper, apple, cucumber etc. etc. to look pristine and uniform. We don’t.
Life just isn’t (and shouldn’t be) perfect, things should be different shapes and sizes, it makes life more interesting, and anyway, it’s food, so it’s what it tastes like that matters.
Supermarkets should really be thinking of clever and imaginative ways of educating it’s audiences to understand this, rather than demanding pristine produce from suppliers. That way everyone in the whole food chain would benefit, and we’d all be a whole lot happier.
PS Thanks to River Nene Organics for our lovely deliveries.
