I was lucky enough to be given a lovely little book for Christmas called ‘Ride with me NYC’, it’s a great journal of all about cycling in and around New York, as a keen cyclist and a dedicated ‘fixie’ man, it was right up my street.
I’m reading it slowly so the enjoyment is not over too quickly, yesterday I read all about ‘The High Line’, and old derelict railroad track that had lay dormant and unused for years and was due to be demolished until a group of local residents (and local architects) grouped together to help save it and turn it into something new and beautiful.
Now, thanks to ten years of fundraising and development work, it has reopened as ‘The High Line’ a stunning raised platform park/walkway, with wild flowers, seating, views - so creative and inspiring.
Just goes to show, ‘make do and mend’, recycle, reuse, whatever term you want to use, with a little bit of thought and creativity something old and tired can be turned into something beautiful and relevant. Go take a look. www.thehighline.org
