Just when I thought I was too old to enter drawing competitions, along comes the opportunity to design a 50p for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Now that’s what I call a chance to stamp your mark on history, beats a Blue Peter badge hands down.
After Matthew Dent did such a revolutionary job with the new British coinage, the bar has been set pretty high - but that just shows the gang at the Royal Mint are open to new ideas and approaches, which can only be good.
So come on all you budding history-making designers out there, pick up your pencils, your country needs you.
